Reunite Charlemagne's fractured empire during a period of rebellion and succession struggles. Players take the roles of his grandchildren, securing the loyalty of nobles by granting estates and expanding their power across the regions of the Carolingian realm. Each game year is divided into four quarters. Players secretly add action tiles to a bag, then draw them one at a time, creating an unpredictable order of actions. The game includes competitive and semi-cooperative modes, ending when peace is declared—or, in the semi-cooperative version, when the realm descends into chaos.
