Diamant

2005 · Card Game

Diamant

Players explore a hazardous site by revealing cards from a shared deck and splitting any gems found on each reveal. After each card, players simultaneously choose to continue deeper or leave and bank their current haul; gems left unclaimed remain on the path for the next turn. The deck contains recurring hazards that eliminate everyone still exploring when a hazard appears twice in a round, plus rare artifact cards that sit on the path and can be claimed under specific leaving conditions. Play focuses on risk assessment and timing as the number of players who leave affects each player’s share of the rewards.

This is a truly great design. So far I only played it on BGA (with 4 & 5), and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. It's quick, it's simple, it has a nice amount of interaction for this kind of game, it's just FUN. I think I like the artwork of the original better, but I still can't wait to try the IELLO version in person. Solid game, can get random and samey, but it's usually a lot of fun. Try using a scoring board for keeping track of the amount of gems, instead of handing them out. Makes the game a bit more smooth.
