Flying Colors

Recreates naval actions of the Age of Sail, from small skirmishes to fleet engagements with dozens of individually modeled ships. Players command named ships rated for size, gunnery, boarding and damage, and assign nearly four dozen historical commanders whose ratings affect formation control and fleet behavior. Play emphasizes tactical command rather than detailed ship fiddliness: a simple initiative and command system governs activations and maneuvers, while rules cover broadsides, rakes, anchoring, wind and weather, shore batteries and boarding. Scenarios of varying size are provided, with a time scale of roughly 5–10 minutes per turn and support for one to four players, including solitaire.
