Players lead a fellowship of heroes on a narrative campaign through the Wilderlands north of Gondor, facing threats along the river Anduin, in Mirkwood, and around the city of Dale. Each scenario presents objectives and hazards while players cooperatively manage decks of hero and player cards, commit resources to quests, and resolve encounters from an evolving encounter deck. The expansion introduces new player cards, enemies such as goblins and giant spiders, location challenges including deep caverns, and a refugee protection theme that ties scenarios together. Content integrates into ongoing campaign play with scenario-linked setup and progression across multiple linked adventures.
