1860: Railways on the Isle of Wight

A historical railway-economic simulation set on a small island map in the 1860s. Players buy and sell shares in railway companies during stock rounds and, during operating rounds, lay track, place station tokens, run trains for revenue, and buy rolling stock; the player holding a company’s largest share controls its operations. The title uses 18xx mechanics but with compact geography and an unusual insolvency system: corporations can enter receivership while continuing to operate, may run without owned trains by leasing and withholding earnings, and presidents’ certificates can be sold into the bank pool. Play ends as weaker companies are eliminated in a wave of nationalization, and the winner is the player with the highest combined wealth (cash, stock value, and private companies).

possibly the only 18xx that works at 2p, lots of stuff happening. Manages to replace common 18xx dogmas with interesting and innovative mechanics. The result is a fresh and dynamic game. Which actually seems lighter but is indeed pretty difficult to master. Strangely, it works as an intro to 18xx since the stock shenanigans are not as opaque as 1830 Playtime 2p= 3h
