Evolution: Climate
Players guide evolving species through an ecosystem where food is limited, predators hunt, and the climate shifts between heat and cold. On each turn, players draft cards to create and modify species, add trait cards (up to four per species), and allocate population and body size. Traits such as Heavy Fur, Migratory, Nocturnal, Burrowing, Long Neck, Hard Shell, and Horns alter feeding options and protect against climate extremes or carnivores. A climate track advances based on cards played each round, producing environmental effects that influence survival and feeding. Victory is determined by how well players balance population, traits, and resources across changing conditions.

Mohasz7,5 I love the theme and the artwork, although it might be a tad too 'involved' for us. I'll definitely look into it later. Bought it. The component quality is iffy at some points (especially for the price), but I still very much looking forward to playing it. I've only scratched the surface in my first (2p) game, but it looks promising. The climate had very little part in our play and food was suspiciously abundant. I definitely want to play it more. I was so excited about discovering and acquiring this game, but in reality, it's just to agressive and it never gets played.
Onbase4,6 + art is unique and fantastic along with the rest of the graphic design + limited symbology = easy to teach + cards, in general, have good explanations and glossary in the back of the rulebook clears up any ambiguities + can accommodate 6 players within a reasonable timeframe (using simultaneous cardplay) + simulates the "evolutionary arms-race" well with such a simple card system + species boards are easy to manage + climate system gives all players external pressures to adapt (events can really shake up a leading player's strategy) + good player interaction (direct = predation, indirect = competition for food) without seeming too mean because it fits within the game's ecological context + Tristan's favorite game :^) - depending on the type of players, the climate system may not have a large impact on play. If players decide to keep the climate generally temperate, you're essentially playing the base Evolution game. If someone is comfortably in the lead in this scenario, it's difficult to significantly slow them down without the extreme climate effects. I think the game is at its best when everyone is having the think on their feet and adapt, so I guess I was looking for stronger ways to impact the climate. - got a little difficult to analyze everyone's species at a full 6 players, which leads to a little bit less interaction and purposeful competition between species (playing with fewer players and sequential cardplay may lead to more tactical decisions, and perhaps more satisfying outcomes). - doesn't seem very interesting at 2 players
Regelvragen
Beantwoord vanuit het spelregelboek door de regelassistent van Ludoya.
Can a Carnivore eat Plant Food or be fed Plant Food with traits like Long Neck or Cooperation?
No — a Carnivore may never eat Plant Food, even with traits; Carnivores feed by attacking and gain Meat Food equal to the attacked species' Body Size (see feeding rules and Carnivore trait) (pages 10, 12).
How does Fat Tissue work — when can I store food there and when does it move to the species?
After a species has been fed up to its Population you may place additional food onto its Fat Tissue card (up to the species' Body Size), and immediately before the next round's Food Cards are revealed move that stored food to the Species Board (this transfer does not trigger Cooperation) (page 13).
Does Burrowing protect my species from attacks and from climate population loss, and when does it apply?
Burrowing prevents attacks unless one or more of the species' Population is Hungry (protection normally requires the species be fully fed), and it also reduces Population loss from Heat or Cold by 1; with Hibernation the protection can apply when all but 2 Population are fed (pages 12, 15).
How is Population lost from the Climate track — does it hit everyone at once and can defenses stack?
All species lose Population simultaneously according to the current Climate zone's icons and Body Size ranges, and protective traits (e.g., Burrowing, Migratory, Nocturnal) are cumulative and can reduce that loss (page 9).
Can I place duplicate Trait Cards on a species or give a species more than four traits?
No — a species may not have duplicate Trait Cards and may have at most 4 Trait Cards (in the 2‑player game the maximum is 3 traits) (pages 7, 11).
If my Carnivore attacks a species with Horns, who loses Population first — can both go extinct?
Horns cause the attacking Carnivore to lose 1 Population before it takes Meat Food for the attack, so it is possible for both the attacker and the prey to go extinct (page 15).
