Players take on the role of vault officers managing a subterranean community after a nuclear apocalypse. Through worker-placement actions, players assign dwellers to rooms to produce resources, resolve incidents, and increase dwellers’ happiness. Players balance resource management, room placement, and incident response across multiple rounds to earn the most happiness points among the vault population by the end of the game.
