Kick-Off

A compact card-and-board simulation of association football in which players use cards to move the ball, take kicks, and defend. Play proceeds across two periods; each period ends when the draw stack is nearly exhausted and the player with the most goals wins. Players hand-play different card types—attack cards for advances and shots, free-kick cards that can be played during play, stop cards to block goals, corner cards to force a corner, and a single penalty card—to resolve kick-offs, free kicks, penalties, goalkeeper actions, and clearances. Teams form when more than two players participate, and ball position shifts on the board as cards are played.
