Players take on the roles of Kindred in Montreal after the Second Inquisition, navigating a campaign of sealed scenarios that unfold over multiple sessions. The game blends storytelling, strategy and roleplaying: players create and develop characters from major vampire clans, resolve multi-choice dialogues, conduct investigations and engage in tactical combat using tiles, cards, dice and miniatures. Decisions and character choices drive the narrative and the board state; scenarios can unlock or become unavailable based on player actions, and progress carries forward through experience and campaign consequences. Supports one to four players without a game master.

Great components. Really like the miniatures and artwork, but I've come to the conclusion that I heavily prefer playing true RPGs and not DM-less dungeon crawlers anymore as I always crave more freedom which only true RPGs can provide. Some of the negatives are the mountain of erratas (not super problematic if you care to do some common sense judgements on the spot wheiging RAW vs RAI). And the combat and disiplines was a little bit too simplistic for me. Didnt feel like I was boiling anyones blood with Tremere. :/

When do I have to make a Rouse check?

Whenever you “use the Blood” (Mend Damage, Blood Surge, or use a Discipline); adjust Hunger before resolving the effect and roll a single red die (blank = +1 Hunger, skull = +2 Hunger). (p.4)

Can I use the Blood more than once on my turn?

No — you may use the Blood only once per turn (and once per page in a dialogue or investigation), and each use always requires a Rouse check. (pp.7, 4)

If I fail a stealth check, does that immediately start combat?

You complete your movement and lose stealth; an aggressive NPC with a state card will begin combat and gain +1 Initiative, a neutral NPC gains +1 Resistance token, and NPCs without a state card do nothing — combat may also start from other triggers like entering an aggressive NPC’s LoS. (pp.7, 9)

Do I have to reveal which combat card I'm playing?

You may announce only the card type (Attack/Defence/Mix) but not the specific card name; Defence cards are revealed when used and generate Resistance tokens that reduce damage. (p.10)

How does Hunger change my skill check dice, and can I gain Hunger from a check?

Replace one black die with a red die for each point of Hunger (if Hunger exceeds your black dice, roll red dice equal to your Hunger); after resolving the check, increase Hunger by 1 if there are more skulls than total successes. (p.3)

If I change vampires during the campaign, what carries over?

You keep the XP from your previous vampire, but you discard any effects and reset your Humanity to 7. (p.11)
