When cats arrive in New Zealand in 1640, Maori spirits envy their nine lives. Players build warrior ranks by placing cards in up to four places, reinforcing them with matching cards or combinations totaling nine to create a mauw, and attacking opponents with warriors or spirits. At the end of each turn, players draw until they have four cards. The game ends when a player creates three mauw in three different places.
