Operation Dauntless: The Battles for Fontenay and Rauray, France, June 1944

A grand-tactical simulation of British attempts to seize Fontenay and the high ground near Rauray in June 1944. Players command company- and platoon-level units on a 425-yard-per-hex map representing bocage, fields, orchards, woods and village farmsteads. The British 49th Division seeks to capture objectives and secure positions for the follow-on offensive while German forces—elements of elite panzergrenadier and panzer divisions—begin dug in and employ fortifications, counterattacks and heavy armor. Gameplay uses 90-minute turns, detailed armor/anti-tank rules, artillery and air support, engineers, transport, specialty ammo and scenario-specific modifiers such as German ammo shortages and fanatical defense. Includes multiple scenarios and a linked campaign; plays two-player or solitaire.
