Guns of the Askari

This strategy game recreates the East African campaign of World War I, covering conventional battles, naval actions on lakes and at sea, mobile warfare, and the later guerrilla campaign in Portuguese East Africa. Players command German, British, Belgian, and optionally Portuguese forces using infantry, machine guns, cavalry, armored cars, artillery, naval units, and supply formations. Four scenarios cover different stages of the conflict, with combat rules changing as the campaign evolves and variable turn lengths reflecting its shifting tempo. The game supports two or three players and typically takes 6–8 hours to play.
