Los jugadores construyen de forma colaborativa un mundo de fantasía y cuentan una historia compartida de aventuras heroicas a lo largo de campañas de larga duración. Los jugadores crean personajes usando cartas de ascendencia, comunidad, subclase y dominio que definen su trasfondo, valores y habilidades en evolución, y luego resuelven las acciones tirando un dado de Esperanza y un dado de Miedo (ambos d12) para determinar los resultados. El sistema pone el foco en un juego guiado por la narrativa y centrado en los personajes, donde las elecciones de cartas y los resultados de los dados moldean arcos personales y la creación de mundo impulsada por el grupo.
