Hoplite: Warfare in the Greco-Persian Age 5th-4th Century BC

A tactical wargame that reconstructs hoplite-era battles of the 5th–4th centuries BCE at a scale of 100 yards per hex. Players command formations of heavy infantry, light troops, and cavalry, maneuvering phalanxes, applying doctrine-style rules such as advance levels and formation drift, and handling special capabilities like Persian light cavalry harassment and dispersal. The box presents eleven historical scenarios—from skirmishes against Persian missile troops to large set-piece engagements—each with both full-detail and simplified rule variants. Play emphasizes formation cohesion, inertia in movement and combat, and positional maneuvering that determines when and how hoplite clashes resolve.
