Players operate in a semi-historical railway economy set on a single continent divided into six states, with private companies, public corporations and a British-style bank interacting on the board. Play alternates between stock rounds, where players buy and sell shares and jockey for control of rail companies, and operating rounds, where company directors lay track, place stations, purchase trains and run routes to generate revenue. Companies may pay dividends or retain earnings for expansion, and the bank can issue loans and manage companies in receivership. Distinct rules cover private-company acquisition, multiple track gauges across states and a special long-distance train that affects route planning. The game ends at a fixed point and the highest net worth wins.
