Italy '43

A two-player operational wargame covering the U.S. Fifth Army’s advance from Naples to the Gustav Line during October–December 1943. Play uses a 2–3 day per turn scale with battalion, regiment, and brigade units on a 3.8 km/hex map and reproduces the same map and unit scale as the earlier Salerno and Normandy system. Gameplay follows the familiar 19xx mechanics (zones of control, Determined Defense, Extended Movement and a CRT) with added rules for construction of defensive lines, mountain units, and two attack options: Prepared Offensives and Sustained Attacks. Four scenarios range from local actions (Volturno, Barbara Line, Mignano Gap) to the full campaign, showing how depleted German forces delayed the Fifth Army.
