Lorenzo il Magnifico: Big Box

2021 · Renaissance

Lorenzo il Magnifico: Big Box

Manage a Renaissance family’s resources, hire new leaders, and expand influence across Italy while avoiding excommunication. This edition collects the base game with five expansions: extra leader cards, new family houses, a partial events expansion, and two promotional leader packs. Players place workers, acquire and spend resources, develop buildings and territories, and use leader abilities to execute engine-building strategies over several production rounds. The box provides the combined card sets and components from the listed expansions but does not include unrelated promotional material or the full Pazzi Conspiracy Kickstarter content.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I use resources I gain during a Harvest/Production activation to pay costs for other cards or exchanges within that same activation?

No — all resources you intend to use for exchanging effects must already be in your personal supply before starting the activation; you cannot use resources received from permanent effects during that same activation to pay other effects (page 8).

How do servants change my Family Member's action value — is there a limit?

You may spend servants 1:1 to increase a Family Member's value with no stated limit (for example you can spend 3 servants to make a neutral family member value 3); this modified value is used to meet action requirements (page 4).

If a tower is already occupied, can I still place there and can I use the floor's bonus to pay the 3-coin occupation fee?

You may place in an occupied tower but must pay 3 coins to the supply before placing, and you may not use the floor bonus you would receive from that placement to pay those 3 coins (page 7).

What happens during the Vatican Report — do I have to spend all my Faith to avoid excommunication and when do I get the Victory Points?

The Vatican Report occurs at the end of rounds 2, 4, and 6 and checks the period faith thresholds (3/4/5); if you meet the threshold you may support the Church by spending all your Faith to gain the Victory Points shown for your Faith-track step and then move back to zero, or you may decline and be excommunicated; if you lack the required Faith you are excommunicated and place a cube on the current Excommunication Tile (page 10).

What do I get for placing a Family Member in the Council Palace and how does it affect turn order?

When you place in the Council Palace you immediately receive 1 Council Privilege and 1 coin, and the left-to-right order of Family Members placed there determines the Turn Order for the next round (uncolored and multiple placements count as described; if nobody placed there the Turn Order stays the same) (pages 9 and 11).

Can I take two cards from the same tower in the same round?

Yes — a single player can take two cards from the same tower in the same round only by using their uncolored (neutral) Family Member or via a card effect; normally there cannot be two Family Members of the same color in the same tower (page 7).
