Rheinländer

1999 · Abstract Strategy

Rheinländer

Players act as dukes establishing duchies along the Rhine by placing knights on numbered riverbank plots that match cards in their hand. After claiming plots, players expand duchies to include adjacent land and add buildings such as castles, cathedrals, and cities, which increase duchy value and grant in-game benefits. Play continues until a player runs out of knights; the winner is the player with the highest total score from their duchies.

Fairly mean and nasty - kind of like Tigris and Euphrates nasty. One of Knizia's better games.
