Terra Mystica

Players lead one of fourteen factions, each tied to a specific terrain, and expand their realm by terraforming adjacent hexes into their home landscape. The game is deterministic and information-complete; players take turns spending actions and resources to build and upgrade structures (dwellings, trading houses, strongholds, temples, sanctuaries), develop terraforming and shipping skills, and advance in four cult tracks. Proximity to other factions affects power and expansion difficulty, and each faction has unique special abilities that shape strategic planning and network-building across the map.

Too euro for my taste. Zero theme.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I build a Dwelling on any hex next to one of my buildings?

No. It must be your Home terrain, and it must be directly adjacent to one of your Structures; adjacency across a River only counts if a Bridge connects the spaces. (Rulebook, pp. 5–6)

If I use Spades to transform a hex, do I have to build there right away?

No. You may transform a space without building, but you can’t save Spades for a later action: they must be used immediately, and a space with a Structure can’t be transformed. (Rulebook, p. 6)

Can I spend Power from any bowl, or only Bowl III?

You can spend Power only from Bowl III. When you spend it, move those tokens back to Bowl I; gaining Power moves tokens forward from Bowl I to II, then II to III. (Rulebook, p. 5)

Can we take the same Power action more than once in a round?

No. Each board Power action is available only once per round, first come, first served; cover it with an Action token after taking it. Special actions are also limited to once per round. (Rulebook, pp. 7–8)

What exactly do we need to found a Town?

You need at least 4 directly adjacent Structures whose combined Power value is at least 7; only 3 Structures are needed if one is a Sanctuary. Dwellings count as 1, Trading Houses and Temples as 2, and Strongholds and Sanctuaries as 3. (Rulebook, p. 8)

If I pass, can I still take another action later this round?

No. Passing ends your actions for the rest of the round; return your Bonus card and take one of the available cards for next round. The first player to pass becomes the next round’s Starting player. (Rulebook, p. 8)
