Carcassonne Limited Edition

A compilation of the base tile-laying game and three expansions packaged together. Players place terrain tiles to build a medieval landscape of cities, roads, cloisters and fields, then deploy followers to score points for completed features. The included expansions add an opening river that shapes the initial map, larger scoring for inns and cathedrals plus extra follower pieces, and trade goods with a builder token that enables extra turns and merchant scoring. The set assembles the core game and these additions in a single box.

This is the classic game of tile laying where you create an entire landscape. This game more than any other taught me more expansions does not a better game make. In fact, this is easily expanded beyond playability. If you are an expansion-aholic like me, keep track of how many tiles the base game has, and incorporate no more expansions at one time than would double the basic game length. This game also has lots of downtime between turns. I love it as a classic, but with Carcassonne South Seas and Carcassonne The City, I wouldn't recommend this game at this point.
