Players act as royal representatives in a 12th-century frontier region, developing villages, building castles and promoting agriculture, trade, faith and noble wealth. On each turn players place tiles, move discs and workers, and take actions to expand territory, secure defenses and increase the value of their holdings. Resource management and area control determine scoring over multiple rounds. Solo rules exist but are not included in the box.
