Players cooperate as a crew of explorers trying to survive and complete objectives on Mars. They manage resources, construct habitats and equipment, resolve hazards from the hostile environment, and handle random events generated by an integrated app. The game supports standalone scenarios or a linked campaign in which successive sessions carry over consequences and developed technologies.
