Genoa

Players take the roles of Renaissance merchants moving around the city to acquire goods, fill orders and deliver messages. Actions include buying and selling commodities, obtaining privileges, and completing contracts that grant income and victory points. Negotiation and deal‑making between players are central: trades, bargains and cooperative arrangements can be proposed and enforced, with flexible rules allowing negotiation over many game elements. The game resolves economic planning, movement and bargaining as players aim to amass wealth and influence through efficient deliveries and profitable deals.

Tier 4- Above average with some compelling hooks— good for a few (1-5) plays Nothing about this game speaks to me. The negotiation (I have a lifetime of Monopoly PTSD), theme, art — nothing would make me pick this game to give it a shot. However, I ended up playing as my group wanted to and I was very surprised that I actually enjoyed it. A 4p learning game lasted 3 hours, which is a lot for what this game is, but I can see it being a lot quicker 2nd time as we grasped all the concepts. The complexity is what makes the game interesting. This is also the kind of game that the people at the table could make or break the experience for you. I played with people I know and enjoy gaming with, but i can see this going south if you are stuck with unreasonable/ difficult / annoying people— especially those who like to gang-up against one player. I also think a smaller map and/or a taller merchant stack could lead to shorter game length and would make me play this again. Of course, a revamp of aesthetics ( and theme?) could only help. I think SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM is good comparison point in some ways— a simpler negotiation game with fun theme/art which still has a bit of the "Genoa" flavour and is just good enough for me (not that it is any way the pinnacle of negotiation boardgame or anything). Overall this is a very different game from what I usually play and prefer...but I would recommend others like me to give it a shot— it might surprise you!

The best and complex negotiation game board. Only one game per day (3hours) or your head will explode
