La Bête

An asymmetric hunt set in 18th-century rural France between a single hidden Predator and a group of Investigators over a three-year campaign divided into twelve seasonal rounds. Each round investigators choose movements to protect locations and examine recent sites for traces, while the Predator secretly selects strike locations and may spend limited special powers to increase kills. Seasonal event cards shift advantages—spring and summer favor investigators, fall and winter favor the Predator. The Predator scores victims based on travel distance, local NPCs, applied powers, and investigator presence; investigators can discover traces from sites visited within the previous two seasons to disable powers or reveal the Predator’s identity. Victory is asymmetric: the Predator wins by reaching a set number of victims before the campaign ends; investigators win by identifying the Predator or preventing that threshold.
