Players play a trick-taking card game for 3–5 people where the second-highest card of the led suit wins each trick. The game uses a no-trump, must-follow structure and includes some ranks with negative values. The trick winner collects their played card plus any cards that failed to follow suit into a personal score pile, but only one copy of each rank can be kept; if a duplicate would be collected both copies are discarded. Hands end with players summing the ranks in their score pile for points, and the overall game ends when a player exceeds 40 points; the player closest to 40 without going over wins.

Who wins a trick—the highest card or the second-highest?

The second-highest card in the lead suit wins. If only one card is in the lead suit, that card wins (p. 2).

Do I have to follow suit, and can I play a Jester instead?

You must follow the lead suit if you can; otherwise, you may play any card. The 0 and 10 Jesters always count as the lead suit, but you’re never forced to play one (pp. 2–3).

What happens if someone leads with a Jester?

The next standard card played sets the lead suit. Players who can follow that suit must do so (p. 4).

Which cards does the trick winner keep?

The winner keeps the card they played and any non-Jester cards that did not follow the lead suit. The other cards are discarded (pp. 4–5).

What happens if I collect a card with a value I already have?

Matching values cancel: discard both matching cards, whether the duplicate was already in your score area or was collected in the same trick. You can never keep more than one card of any value (p. 5).

How do I score, and what happens when someone goes over 40 points?

At the end of each round, add the values in your score area; negative totals move your marker back, but it can’t go below 0. A player who exceeds 40 is eliminated, and the highest-scoring player at 40 or less wins (p. 6).
