Arboretum

Spelers bouwen een persoonlijk raster van genummerde boomkaarten in verschillende kleuren en creëren orthogonaal verbonden paden die in waarde toenemen. Tijdens elke beurt trekt een speler twee kaarten (uit de stapel of aflegstapels), speelt één kaart in zijn arboretum en legt vervolgens één kaart af op een persoonlijke aflegstapel. Wanneer de stapel op is, vergelijken spelers de waarde van de kaarten die ze nog in hun hand hebben per kleur om te bepalen wie elke kleur scoort. De hoogste waarde in een kleur levert punten op voor een pad dat met die kleur begint en eindigt; je krijgt één punt per kaart in het pad, of twee punten per kaart als het hele pad dezelfde kleur heeft. De speler met de meeste punten wint.

+ Simple & interesting gameplay + Beautiful artwork + Great quality cards - Rather stressful Update: I really wanted to love this game, but I must admit I hate the "you only score if you have majority" rule. This game is just too mean for me. I have other games that offer a similar experience with a fair bit less agonizing involved.

How many cards do I draw and discard on my turn?

Draw 2 cards, one at a time, from the draw pile and/or the top of any player’s discard pile, including your own. Then play 1 card and discard 1 card, leaving you with exactly 7 cards in hand (page 1).

Can I move or cover a card after I’ve planted it?

No. After your first card, each card you play must be placed horizontally or vertically adjacent to a card already in your arboretum; once placed, it cannot be moved, removed, or covered (page 1).

Does the game end as soon as the draw pile runs out?

The player who draws the last card takes their turn normally, and then the game ends and scoring begins (page 1).

How do we decide who gets to score each tree color?

For each color, add up the values of matching cards in each player’s hand; the player with the highest total may score one path of that color, and tied players may each score one. If nobody has cards of that color, everyone may score paths of that color (pages 1–2).

What happens if I have an 8 and an opponent has the 1 of that same color?

Your 8 counts as 0 when determining who gets to score that color’s paths; the 1 still counts as 1 (page 2).

Do all the cards in a scoring path have to be the same color, and can I use a card more than once?

No: values must increase along the path, and only its first and last cards must match the color being scored; the cards between them can be any colors. A tree may be used in more than one path (page 2).
