Carrossel

Four siblings operate an old merry-go-round and compete to sell the most tickets while collaborating to keep the ride running. Each round, players sit at a rotating board and simultaneously play a numbered card (1–12) and place a colored tile (twelve tiles in four colors plus two wilds) onto the space indicated by the card. Client cards in sets of three sit beside each ticket booth; forming three-in-a-row matching those client cards earns the client tokens and points. Sequences are often completed using other players’ tiles, so players balance placement to secure the largest share of points from each run. The game ends when a player cannot play or the client deck is exhausted; victory goes to the highest total of client and objective points.

This is a very short game, where you use numbered cards to lay tiles of your color into the portion of the grid in front of you, then you rotate the board, check to see if any orthogonal chain of three tiles matches the three cards you have in front of you in any order, then rotate again, and check again. When a chain is fulfilled, you cover those tiles with markers, and then hand the scoring cards that made up the chain to the players who laid the tiles down. The goal is to try and line up what other people need, so it rotates into them. Each scored card has some special ability for example some cards let you refresh yourself by resetting your hand of cards, or uncovering your tiles. I had trouble getting very enthusiastic about the game. You could line up some minorly clever moves, but there wasn't much to it, and what there was didn't work out to be anything more than the sum of it's parts. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ☆ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
