Players act as Renaissance merchant families operating fleets across the Mediterranean, buying, selling and transporting commodities between ports to score victory points. Turns resolve by activating individual numbered galleys: when a galley becomes active its owner may load cargo, move, fight or build, and successive numbers let a player act multiple times in a row. Fleets must be crewed and equipped to attack rival ships, defend ports and take over unprotected harbors. Ports produce different goods and warehouses affect scoring; special rules treat wine and new buildings differently. Random event cards drawn during play create additional counts and income opportunities, and combat, construction costs and recruitment vary from earlier editions.
