Azul Duel
Decorate palace vaults by drafting and placing patterned tiles to create contrasting day and night motifs. Two players alternately draft tiles and choose the pattern in which those tiles will be placed, balancing immediate gains against setting up future moves. Scoring depends on completed patterns, placement rules, and managing leftover tiles, with tactical choices about where and when to place pieces.

The quality is poor, and in my opinion, quite disappointing. The player boards are a thin sheet that bends easily and never stays flat. The cardboard of the bonus tokens is ridiculous. I don't understand why they haven't improved the components by now, like with the Azul Mini that already comes with a double-layered board. The score track moves too easily. The tower for dropping the tiles doesn't even fit in the box when unassembled; you have to tuck the bottom flap inside every time. I almost prefer to use the game box to store the tiles. I don't know if they're planning to charge for an upgrade like they did with the other Azuls, or if they just want to keep the game cheap to maximize profit. I expect better quality from Azul. I don't mind paying a bit more if the components are well thought out. As for the game itself, I really struggle to understand, beyond collecting, why not just continue playing with the base Azul. It's good, but I don't see a revolution.
Regelfrågor
Besvarat ur regelboken av Ludoyas regelassistent.
When I take tiles from a Factory, do I have to take all tiles of that color and what happens to the rest?
When you pick from a Factory’s sun you take all tiles of the chosen color from that Factory; the remaining tiles are placed on that Factory’s moon—stacked on the Bonus chip for small factories or placed on the indicated spaces for large ones (page 5).
What's the difference between taking tiles from a Factory's sun versus its moon?
From a sun (action B) you take all tiles of one color from a single Factory; from moons (action C) you take the top tiles of the same color from the moons of all five Factories, and when taking from a small Factory moon you only take the topmost tile even if identical tiles are below it. Also, the first player to take any tile from the large Factory’s moon must take the Starting player tile (page 5).
Can I place picked tiles into any pattern line, and what if there are too many tiles?
You must add all picked tiles to exactly one pattern line, placing them right-to-left; you may only add tiles to a line that is empty or already contains the same color, and any excess tiles that don’t fit go to your Broken tiles space (page 6).
When do I move tiles onto my Dome and what happens if they can't be placed there?
In Phase 2 you go through pattern lines top-to-bottom and move the rightmost tile of each complete line to a matching space on a Dome-plate (scoring immediately); if no matching space exists and three plates are already assigned to that line, those tiles become unplaceable and must be moved to your Broken tiles space, otherwise they remain on the pattern line until a suitable plate is placed (page 7).
How do Bonus chips work—can they substitute for tiles to complete a line?
If an incomplete pattern line has at least one tile you may use two Bonus chips of the matching color or any three Bonus chips to replace one tile and complete the line; flip used chips face down and you may do this multiple times as allowed (page 8).
How is placing on the Dome scored, and how do Broken tiles/Starting-player penalties apply?
Each tile placed on the Dome scores immediately: 1 point if it has no adjacent tiles, otherwise you score the number of horizontally linked tiles and the number of vertically linked tiles (counting the placed tile in each), Special plates grant extra points when completed; after Dome-tiling you lose points for tiles in your Broken tiles space per the penalty track and the player holding the Starting player tile loses 2 points (pages 9 and 8).
