Medieval Academy

Players act as squires undergoing knightly training across multiple disciplines, including jousts, tournaments, quests, education, and acts of charity and gallantry. Over six rounds, players draft cards and play them to advance discs along several training tracks, allocate resources, and score Chivalry Points. Strategic timing of card plays and track movement determines progress in each category. After the sixth round, the player with the most Chivalry Points is declared the winner.

In this game you draft six hands of cards. After each hand, players play one card in turn order. The card bumps you up one of the various tracks in the game. Each track scores in different ways and at different times through the six rounds. I was entertained by the game until towards the end of round three, and by round five the game had well overstayed it's welcome. It's not great that some of the tracks punish you for being last on them, particularly when you are shuffling the entire deck each game, and it's possible few or no cards matching those tracks ever come out. The art is really poor, which doesn't help. It's a good idea for a short game that could have and should have been a lot shorter. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ☆ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
