The Witcher: Old World

2023 · Baserad på en roman

The Witcher: Old World

Players take the role of witchers—professional monster slayers—traveling a map of the Continent years before the familiar saga. They accept quests, investigate locations, and face monsters or rival witchers to earn trophies. Gameplay centers on deck-building and card-driven combat: players choose attacks, dodges, and magical signs to create synergies and execute combos. Quests, tavern brawls, dice poker, and encounters provide money, items, and training to raise attributes. The first player to collect the required number of trophies wins. A solo mode adapts the same exploration and combat experience for one player.

Huge downtime and lack of story, nice combat system. Monsters feels all the same. Sold after first session. +1 star for respect to original novels

Regelfrågor

Besvarat ur regelboken av Ludoyas regelassistent.

Do I have to move before taking a Location Action or can I just use actions at my starting Location?

You must Move at least once before performing Location Actions (you can’t begin your Turn by performing actions where you started); to take a Location Action on your starting Location you must move to that Location during your Turn (for example, move away and back). (p.13)

How much goes into Dice Poker and how are ties resolved?

Each player puts 1 Gold into the Poker‑Pool and then 1 Gold is added from the bank (total 3 Gold); the non‑Active Player rerolls once then the Active Player rerolls once, and ties are broken by highest unused die(s) and finally the Active Player wins if still tied. (p.14)

How many Potions can I carry and how many can I use in a fight?

You may hold up to 4 Potions at a time (discard down to 4 if you exceed it), while the number of Potions you may use during a single fight is limited by your Alchemy Attribute value. (pp.11, 22)

When I deal damage to another Witcher, in what order is damage applied?

Damage is applied in this order: lower the opponent’s Shield for each point, then discard cards from the top of their Deck for excess damage, then discard chosen cards from their Hand for further excess, and if their Hand is empty they are Knocked‑Out. (p.23)

How do card slot cost modifiers work when I take an Action card from the row?

A card in the right‑most slot costs 1 less to take (reduced to a minimum of 0), while cards in the two left‑most slots cost 1 more; when you take a card it goes to your hand, you slide cards right to fill the gap, and draw a new card into the left‑most slot. (p.19)

If I meditate and that would give me my final Trophy, does the game end and do I suffer Fatigue?

Meditation cannot end the game: if meditating would grant your final Trophy you do not advance on the Trophy Track and you do not suffer Fatigue, though you still take the Trophy for its ability; only a Trophy gained from a Fight can end the game. (pp.29, 30)
