Fractal

A changing-state 4X strategy game set in a story-driven legacy campaign where fledgling civilizations vie to rebuild after a fallen galactic empire. Players command asymmetric factions defined by unique abilities, political philosophies and battle masteries, and expand, research and negotiate across a living galaxy that evolves as the game progresses. Combat uses no dice and resolves through upgradable tactic cards, bluffing and initiative-driven play rather than randomness, while campaign decisions and victories permanently alter the unfolding narrative and game world.

Disappointing. I read some of the dev-diaries/updates prior to the Kickstarter as the devs mentioned games like Starcraft The Board Game and Forbidden Stars as inspirations for the combat system, but this game didnt fire on any of the cylinders for me. The combat is way too limiting AND punishing compared to games like Kemet, FS and SC. The teching and colonization is also really simple. I'm sure most of the development was centered around a short playtime (which they succeeded) but at the cost of interestning mechanics as this game has none IMO. Sold after 3 plays. Never tried the solo, maybe that one is fine.
