Arkham Horror: The Card Game (Revised Core Set)

Investigative, campaign-driven card game set in a 1920s New England town where strange occurrences and otherworldly forces intrude on everyday life. Players each build a custom investigator deck that reflects strengths, weaknesses, skills and equipment, then use those cards to explore locations, gather clues, confront foes and manage sanity and resources across linked scenarios. Gameplay supports solo or cooperative play for one to four players, with choices and outcomes carrying forward through a campaign and earning experience to upgrade decks between scenarios. This revised core repackages the original card pool for the 1–4 player experience and remains fully compatible with previously released material.

Great fun game. Incredibly expensive for the contents, which are just cards. Expansions are even more expensive. The basic box should have included way more scenarios. Just three scenarios feels like a farce, frankly. A 80€ game should not have just 3 narrative scenarios when the content of the game is cards, which are the cheapest thing to produce. The game is great, the price makes what could be an 8 into a 6.

How many actions do I get on my turn?

Each investigator has three actions during their turn in the Investigation phase; unused actions are lost when the investigator ends their turn (page 9).

Does playing a card cost an action?

Yes — playing an asset or event from your hand uses one of your actions, except cards with the Fast keyword, which do not cost an action; skill cards are not played and are instead committed to tests (pages 9, 11).

If I'm engaged with an enemy and I do something else, do they attack me?

If you are engaged with one or more ready enemies, performing any action other than Evade, Fight, or activating a Parley/Resign ability causes each of those enemies to make an attack of opportunity against you (page 9).

Can advancing the act cost an action or be done only on certain turns?

Advancing the act by spending the required number of clues does not cost an action and may be done during any investigator’s turn; follow the act card’s instructions and flip it when the clues have been spent (page 10).

What happens when I draw a weakness card?

When you draw a weakness (a card labeled “Weakness” or “Basic Weakness”), you must resolve its “Revelation —” ability immediately when it is drawn (page 8).
