Madeira

Players manage settlement and economic development on a newly colonized Atlantic island divided into three captaincies. They cultivate fields, harvest timber, and build structures while balancing crops, wine and sugar production to satisfy changing royal demands. Ships are constructed and deployed for trade and expeditions; naval actions enable access to foreign markets and discoveries. Victory depends on timing: fulfilling the Crown’s requests, shifting agricultural focus when instructed, and scoring prestige at specific game intervals. Resource shortages, hungry inhabitants and external threats force players to prioritize actions and compete for limited opportunities.

In this game, dice get rolled and then players select a group of 3 dice, which act as their workers for taking actions on the main board. The dice have numbers running 1-3 printed on them, which match the three regions of the board. To take an action, you have to place a die into an area, and then pay the difference between your die and the number of the region in bread tokens. The actions in the game give it a point salad feel, but like in the best point salad games, the different areas you can place into are all intertwined in interesting ways. One of the most intriguing things about the game is that each region of the map has an action spot that has a top half and a bottom half. The top half gets covered by a tile with printed actions on it, and that tile gets randomized each round, so that every turn the action selection choices are a little different. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::star::nostar: Raw enjoyment
