Investigators enter the Dreamlands via Portals or card effects and then move along the Dreamlands’ local paths using the movement and encounter rules laid out for the side board (see page 5).

Prelude cards are applied during setup and introduce special setup changes, ongoing effects, or immediate complications/rewards for the game; setup and how to handle Preludes are described on page 4 (with optional selection rules on page 7).

Gate interactions follow the additional Gate rules in the expansion—you resolve Gate effects according to the rules on page 6, and common edge cases (including when abilities or effects can interact with Gates) are addressed in the FAQ on page 7; unless an effect explicitly allows it, you don’t get special automatic Gate-closing simply by being in the Dreamlands. (See pages 6–7.)

Combat encounters in the Dreamlands use the combat encounter rules and skill resolution described for the expansion, and the Focus action is defined among those additional rules—refer to page 6 for combat resolution, skill values, and the Focus action.

Unique Assets remain tied to the investigator and are governed by the Unique Assets rules in the expansion; any Dreamlands-specific effects on assets are covered on page 6, so resolve those effects per that page.

Dream‑Quest rules, local encounters, and how Dreamlands play affects the campaign Mysteries are explained on page 5 (Dream‑Quest and encounters) and page 6 (how Mysteries and certain effects are handled); follow those sections to determine when Dreamlands actions influence the main game.
