Players represent rival Renaissance families trading favors, bribes and threats to place their kin into lucrative positions within other households. Gameplay consists entirely of open negotiation and simultaneous bidding: players offer money and promises to win slots in opponents’ buildings, but accepts are nonbinding and can be betrayed at any time. The edition in question adjusts the set of available professions and the value distribution of buildings, affecting strategic priorities during bargaining. Rounds flow quickly and resolve through player agreements and betrayals rather than hidden mechanics or dice.
