Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Board Game

Players command rival factions in a fantasy realm, moving heroes across a modular adventure map made of tile pieces divided into hex fields. They explore locations, recruit and manage armies represented by miniature units, and resolve tactical battles on separate combat boards. The game supports competitive, cooperative, and solo scenarios with varied victory conditions, blending map exploration, resource and army management, and scenario-driven objectives into campaign-style play.

Great looking game with cool artwork and OK miniatures. The player aids are mostly useless as they use a ton of text to explain very simple things and not using the space for more important stuff like iconography. The rulebook is terrible, but you can mend this to some degree by using the one here from the Files section. The downtime in this one is extreme if players are doing combat (even with the simple combat system from the core box). This will be far worse with the combat system in the expansion which I believe should only be used for 2-player games. Player "elimination" is a thing as you are mostly out of the game if your opponent has a better hand for combat than you (assuming you both have same hero level and an equal army). I mean "out of the game" as in you will need to spend a ton of resources to create a new army, but by then your opponent will have taken all of your mines as you only get resources every other round. Seems like a cool idea for those who wanted this game purely because of nostalgia as this is as far away from a modern game design as throwing horseshoes on a stick. Would love to see a better developed combat system. PS. I know you can discard cards during each of your turns to prep your hand for combat or other stuff, but that do require you to be somewhat lucky when drawing relics, spells and abilities that suits your combat style which do make it somewhat swingy again. I wish we could se a rotating market place like in the Pax games where there is always 10 cards on display for "purchase" every time you are told to get a new card.

ルールに関する質問

Ludoyaのルールアシスタントがルールブックに基づいて回答しています。

How many actions can my hero take on their turn — can I do town actions and then move?

On your turn you may perform Town Actions (each once per round), Morale Actions, and Movement Actions; Town actions can be taken on your turn (or another player's turn) but not during Combat, and Movement consumes your hero's Movement Points (MP). (see page 10).

What's the difference between a Main Hero and a Secondary Hero — can the Secondary level up or use my deck?

The Main Hero has a Hero card, 3 MP, uses the Might & Magic deck and gains Experience to level up; the Secondary Hero has no Hero card, has 2 MP, cannot gain Experience (so cannot level) and you may not use cards from your hand or Might & Magic deck during Combat when a Secondary Hero is involved. (see page 11).

How does recruiting and reinforcing units work — can I recruit multiple units when I spend the Population token?

Using the Population token to expand your army lets you Recruit and Reinforce units instantly as many times as you can afford; when finished flip the Population token and you cannot use it again until the start of the next round. (see page 26).

When do I draw cards and what is my hand limit?

At the start of your turn you may discard any number of cards and then draw up to your hand limit (if you are already at the limit you need not draw); your hand limit is shown on the Main Hero’s level tracker and increases with levels (e.g., Level 1 = 4, Level 3 = 5, Level 5 = 6, Level 7 = 7). (see pages 10 and 12).

Do units get to retaliate when attacked, and how does initiative work?

Units that survive an attack and are adjacent to their attacker perform one Retaliation Attack per Combat round (a Retaliation cannot trigger another Retaliation), and units activate in decreasing initiative order (ties favor the attacker). (see pages 30–31).

What is Quick Combat and when does it apply?

Quick Combat occurs when your Main Hero’s level is at least one higher than the Field Difficulty: Neutral Units flee and the encounter is resolved instantly with no Combat. (see page 32).
