Legend of the Five Rings

Players take the roles of competing clans in a fantasy empire inspired by medieval Japan and its mythology. Decks are built around clan identity and represent samurai, court figures, and mystical forces vying for influence. Gameplay centers on duels, military conflicts, and intrigue as players bid honor, play characters and events, and contest provinces and battles. Faction loyalty, story-driven cards that players can influence, and long-form campaign play shape evolving tournaments and narrative arcs.

Lots of good ideas in this game, but there are too many factions with too many different victory conditions for the game designers to properly balance. Through Diamond arc to Samurai Arc, they never got the balance right. Card errata was only issued after a broken combo wins a major story tournament, which is too late to stop it from warping the entire environment.
