Players each lead one of fourteen distinct tribes and start with a unique gadget that shapes their strategy. On a turn, a player either spend a keycard to activate a chosen action box or Recall to generate resources and recover keycards. Playing a keycard triggers both the card’s ability and the action box effect, enabling actions like populating the map, moving followers, exploring regions, and building workshops, vaults or monuments. Players expand their engine by acquiring new keycards, upgrading action boxes, and collecting ability stones and relics. Exploration at dig sites uncovers traces of ancient civilizations that grant abilities, gadgets or scoring. Three times during the game, players pick between two paths that give an immediate bonus and influence an endgame scoring category. An optional digital companion can archive tribes for use as ancient civilizations in future games.

If I insert a keycard, do I have to take every effect on the card and the action box above it?
No — all effects on the keycard and the activated action box are optional and may be taken in any order; after resolving any chosen effects, your turn ends (see page 6).
If I Recall, can I still use ability stones afterward on the same turn?
You may use free actions (including ability stones) during a Recall, but once you recharge your ability stones during the Recall you cannot use them again for the remainder of that turn (see page 7).
How many crystals can I keep at the end of my turn?
At the end of your turn you cannot store more than 6 of each type of crystal (white, red, purple) in your storage (see page 8).
When I build in a hex where other players already have buildings, do I have to pay extra followers and what happens to those players?
Yes — when building you must remove 1 additional follower for each other player that already has a building in that hex, and each of those other players then gains 1 follower into that hex (see page 8).
Can I move onto or through a hex with a relicube if I don't have enough followers to pick it up?
No — if you move onto or through a hex with a relicube you must remove the required number of followers to pick it up, and if you don't have enough followers you cannot move onto or through that hex (see page 10).
At the path/ objective end-of-round step, do I get the reward from the objective I keep?
No — when the objective discard step occurs you must discard one of your two objective cards and you immediately receive the reward shown on the lower part of the card you discard; you do not get the reward on the objective you keep (see page 11).
