You may only choose a die from either end of a Bridge; dice between the ends are not available, and if dice remain the one closest to the vacant spot slides forward to become available (page 4).

If the placed die's value is greater than the value beneath it you gain the difference in coins, if it is less you pay the difference, and if equal no coins are gained or paid (page 5).

Only a single die can be stacked atop each die and only on main-board spaces; in a 1- or 2-player game no dice may be stacked anywhere (page 5).

Actions available in a Castle room depend on the color of the die you place and you use the card next to the Die tile matching that color; on the Stewards' floor you may perform up to two actions (in any order) if that color appears twice on the room card, and you cannot place a die of a color with no available actions there (page 6).

The Courtier action lets you pay 2 coins to place a Courtier at the Gate and/or pay 2 or 5 Mother-of-Pearl to move a Courtier up 1 or 2 levels; ending on floors 1–2 moves a Domain card to your Lantern Area and triggers the room's light action, while reaching the Daimyo’s room grants a Lantern Reward and allows you to take a Daimyo-favor benefit if a space is available (pages 10–11, Lanterns page 12).

You can store up to 5 Daimyo Seals and spend them for Passage-of-Time or certain card costs, and at any time exchange 2 Seals for 1 resource of your choice or 1 Seal for 1 coin, with no limit on how often you make these exchanges (page 12).
