Eldritch Horror

A team of investigators travels the globe to prevent an approaching Ancient One from destroying the world. Players take on distinct investigator roles and move between cities and remote locations to gather clues, resolve mysteries, and confront monsters and cults. Gameplay alternates between travel, encounters, and Mythos phases that introduce gates, enemies, and escalating threats tied to the looming Ancient One. Encounters and combat can inflict physical or mental damage, lasting conditions, or narrative complications that shape each investigator’s story. Players cooperate to complete a set of mysteries before the Ancient One awakens or the world is overrun.

Flowchart available. The game is fun, but I think the authors wanted it to be more storytelling that it actually is. I mean: -"You find yourself in a very dark alley. Strange dark people surrounding you, and suddenly--" -Ok, ok, skip the rest of the yadda yadda and tell me what do I have to test

Regelvragen

Beantwoord vanuit het spelregelboek door de regelassistent van Ludoya.

Do we shuffle the entire Mythos deck or build it in stages?

Separate Mythos cards by color, build Stage I, then place Stage II under it, then Stage III under that following the Ancient One sheet’s color/quantity instructions, and do NOT shuffle the completed Mythos deck (see page 6).

How many actions does each investigator get — can I take the same action twice?

Each investigator resolves up to two actions on their turn, and an investigator may perform each listed action only once per round (for example you cannot Rest twice) (see page 7).

If there's a Monster on my space, can I choose a location encounter instead?

No — if there are one or more Monsters on your space you must resolve a Combat Encounter against each Monster, one at a time; only if there are zero Monsters may you resolve a location or token encounter (see page 9).

How do tests work — what counts as a success and can I reroll dice?

Roll a number of dice equal to the listed skill value (minimum 1); a roll of 5 or 6 is a success and the number of successes is the test result, and you may spend Clue tokens to reroll one die immediately after rolling (spend one Clue per reroll) (see page 12).

What happens when my investigator is defeated versus devoured?

When defeated you immediately advance Doom 1, move the investigator to the nearest City and lay the token on its side with a Health or Sanity token, discard Conditions and place possessions on the sheet, pass Lead if needed, and the player chooses a new investigator at the end of the Mythos Phase; when devoured the investigator is treated as defeated but only follows steps 1 and 4 (advance Doom and pass Lead), then their sheet and token are removed from the game and a new investigator is chosen at the end of the Mythos Phase (see page 14).

When does Doom advance — how do the Omen token and Gates affect it?

During the Mythos Phase’s Advance Omen step you move the Omen token and then advance Doom by 1 for each Gate that matches the Omen token’s current space; Doom also advances from other effects such as an investigator being defeated (see pages 10 and 14).
