Players act as freelance trade captains carrying food and goods between cities while confronting frequent pirate raids. Gameplay combines route planning and trading with tactical encounters; combat effectiveness depends on ship upgrades such as cannons and crew improvements that players acquire using earned resources. Players balance profitable trade runs against risky engagements, upgrading a three-dimensional ship model and crew over the campaign. Victory goes to the captain who optimally mixes trading and fighting to fulfill contracts and survive the pirate threat.
