Set in the Ruhr region of the 1950s, players manage coal-mining operations and surrounding industry as mine administrators. They extract coal and overburden, send miners through shifts, produce coke, and construct colliery housing and infrastructure. Play unfolds over five rounds, each with a preparation step that determines mined output, an action phase where players allocate action pieces in turn, and a short end-of-round evaluation. Players pursue various production and building strategies to maximize victory points scored in the final tally.
