Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun

Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun

Players compete as rival builders expanding a grand Egyptian temple complex and managing offerings to six gods. Each round they draft colored dice from board regions whose availability and purity change as an obelisk casts sunny, shaded, or dark zones, and the die’s value and location determine available actions. Drafted dice allow god-specific actions, production of resources, or construction of workshops, quarries, statues and pillars; producing beyond capacity adds taint. Players balance pure and tainted dice to influence turn order, maintain resources to feed their population, and prepare for periodic scoring that awards points for buildings, production capacity and citizens’ happiness.

Te puede marear el obelisco colocando los dados puros e impuros, prohibidos no prohibidos...la primera partida no la disfrutas porque te cuesta asimilar toda la simbología, pero a medida que le das partidas lo disfrutas mucho mas.

I liked the dice mechanism, but nothing more. Too much stuff you can do that doesn't feel very thematically. The theme is very weak in this one. Even if you have sometimes not many possibilities to do, you start to tend to AP... Regelvragen

Beantwoord vanuit het spelregelboek door de regelassistent van Ludoya.

Can I take a Forbidden die from the Obelisk?

No — on your turn you may only take Pure or Tainted dice, not Forbidden (page 10). The sole exception is spending exactly 2 Scribes to perform an Anubis Action, which lets you take any die (including Forbidden) and use it normally (page 14).

How do Scribes work — can I change a die and also do an Anubis action?

You may spend one or more Scribes to adjust the value of the die (values cannot go below 1 or above 6), and spending exactly 2 Scribes performs an Anubis Action; you may combine these effects (for example, spend 3 Scribes to take an Anubis Action and also adjust the die) (page 14).

What happens if I produce more resources than my Production marker allows?

Any excess resources are placed on the right (Tainted) side of your scales as Taint, they cannot be spent, and each excess resource counts as −1 when resolving your Maat balance (pages 21 and 11–12).

When does the Obelisk rotate and what changes during a Rotation?

The Obelisk rotates one section clockwise every two rounds (this occurs when players have exactly 2 or exactly 4 dice on their boards); during Rotation you roll and add dice into the two Shaded sections, ensure all dice are placed into the correct Pure/Tainted/Forbidden rows, and if players have 4 dice you immediately perform a Maat phase (page 11).

Are gray dice ever Pure or usable to Produce Resources?

Gray dice are always Tainted (never Pure or Forbidden) and gray dice cannot be used to Perform the Produce Resources action (pages 9 and 21).

How does scoring work when I raise a Pillar with Ra, especially in corners?

When you raise a Pillar you score 1 VP per Building in the same row and column and 1 VP for each matching edge color on the Pillar tile (if you place the Pillar in a corner, each matching edge scores 2 VP instead of 1); you also receive the reward shown on the covered space and VPs for the space from which the Pillar tile came, then place a Pillar to mark ownership (page 17).
