Unmatched: Battle of Legends, Volume One

Legendary combatants and their allies face off in skirmishes where each fighter plays very differently. Players choose a hero represented by a unique deck that captures their playstyle, maneuver miniatures on a modular board, and resolve combat by comparing attack and defense cards with card-specific effects and a timing system. Movement, line-of-sight for ranged and area attacks, and positioning matter as much as deck management. Matches support two or four players and emphasize asymmetrical tactics: heroes gain power through mechanics like sacrificing cards, growing and shrinking, summoning sidekicks, ranged harpy attacks, or accumulating experience across voyages.

If I take the Maneuver action, do I have to move my fighters?

No — when you take Maneuver you must draw a card, but movement in the second step is optional (you may move each fighter up to its move value or choose to move zero). (Rulebook, p.5)

Can I discard any card to BOOST an attack or movement, even if that card couldn’t legally be played?

Yes — to boost you discard a card and add its BOOST value while ignoring its effects, and cards that can no longer be legally played may still be discarded to boost. (Rulebook, p.6)

What happens when my deck is empty and I need to draw a card? Do I reshuffle my discard?

Do not reshuffle; if you need to draw while your deck is empty your fighters are exhausted and each fighter immediately takes 2 damage. (Rulebook, p.5)

How do IMMEDIATELY, DURING COMBAT and AFTER COMBAT effects resolve, and what if effects happen at the same time?

Resolve IMMEDIATELY effects first, then DURING COMBAT effects, then determine damage, and finally resolve AFTER COMBAT effects; if effects would resolve simultaneously, the defender’s effect resolves first. (Rulebook, p.7)

Can ranged fighters attack across the board or only adjacent spaces?

Ranged fighters may target an adjacent fighter or any fighter anywhere in the same colored zone regardless of adjacency; melee fighters may only target an adjacent fighter. (Rulebook, p.6)

If my hero is reduced to 0 health during combat, does the game end immediately or do AFTER COMBAT effects still resolve?

If a hero is defeated you immediately lose the game, so the game ends at that moment; AFTER COMBAT effects only still resolve if the defeat does not trigger the end of the game. (Rulebook, pp.7–8)
