Players take control of heroic characters from the realms of Middle-earth—rangers, captains, riders and other archetypes—and undertake quests, explore locations, and confront threats as darkness spreads across the land. One player assumes the role of the dark power and plays adversarial forces, advancing evil influence and triggering setbacks. Heroes recruit allies, manage resources and travel the map to complete objectives while balancing local conflicts and overarching story events. Play blends scenario-driven adventure, area control and confrontation, with asymmetric roles and narrative ties to the larger lore of the setting.
