Players take control of heroic characters from the realms of Middle-earth—rangers, captains, riders and other archetypes—and undertake quests, explore locations, and confront threats as darkness spreads across the land. Heroes recruit allies, manage resources and travel the map to complete objectives while balancing local conflicts and overarching story events.
