The Castles of Burgundy

Players act as aristocrats in medieval Burgundy, expanding a princedom by taking and placing settlement tiles onto a personal estate board. Tiles represent buildings, castles, mines, trade posts and knowledge, and trigger their effects when placed into specific regions that require adjacency and matching types. Play proceeds over five phases of five rounds. Each round players roll two dice and take two actions from options such as acquiring tiles to a staging area, placing tiles into the princedom, delivering goods that match a die, and taking workers to modify future dice. Money, workers, undelivered goods and endgame tile bonuses determine final scoring; a basic and an advanced ruleset are included.

Un dels millors jocs de la meva ludoteca, àgil, molt divertit, amb una mica d’atzar i fàcil d’entendre.

Might replace Puerto Rico as the bland-looking heavier euro game in my collection (I'm more of a casual gamer). Lots of bits, but surprisingly easy to understand. Engaging gameplay, but it might be a tiny bit longer than it should be. The more I play it the more fun it becomes. I just love that you can almost always do something cool with your rolls. Definitely a rewarding game.

Regelspørgsmål

Besvaret ud fra regelbogen af Ludoyas regelassistent.

Can I use a tile I just took straight from a depot in my duchy?

No. A tile taken from the game board must first go onto an empty storage space on your player board; you can then use another action to place it in your duchy. (p. 4, 7)

How do I place a tile in my duchy, and can I change the die result?

The die result must match an unused space, and the tile’s color must match that space; the space must also be adjacent to a tile you’ve already placed. You may spend worker chips to adjust a die by 1 per worker, wrapping between 1 and 6. (pp. 4–5)

When I place a ship, do I have to take goods from the depot matching my die?

No. Take all goods from any depot you choose, then move your playing piece forward one space on the bridge. You may store up to three different goods types; goods you can’t store remain in the depot. (p. 5)

When I add animals, do I score the animals already in that pasture too?

Yes: score the animals on the tile you just placed, plus animals of the same type on other tiles in that same contiguous pasture. Those other tiles don’t have to be adjacent to the new tile, but animals in a different pasture don’t count. (p. 6)

Can I build the same type of building more than once in a town?

Normally, no: each building type may appear only once in each continuous town. A building’s effect happens immediately when you place it, without needing an extra die action. (pp. 6–7)

What do I score when I finish an area?

Score points based on its size (1–36 VP), plus the current phase bonus, which ranges from 10 VP in phase A to 2 VP in phase E. (p. 8)
