Fraktionen prallen in einer gezeichneten, unterirdischen Landschaft aufeinander, während Assassinen, untotes Adelsgeschlecht, fliegende Späher, erfahrene Gesetzeshüter und disziplinierte Samurai um die Kontrolle über Blackscar kämpfen. Die Spieler führen sechs neue Helden mit einzigartigen Fähigkeiten ins Feld, stellen modulare Hex-Felder und zerstörbare Pilzobjekte auf und nutzen Armeekarten, Würfel, Marker und Szenarioregeln, um Kämpfe und Ziele auszutragen. Neue Mechaniken führen Schattentiles und lebende Shroudshrooms ein, die Bewegung und Sichtlinie verändern, während reaktive und unterbrechungsbasierte Kräfte taktische Timing-Entscheidungen schaffen. Die Partien setzen auf filmische Entscheidungen von Moment zu Moment – Versteinerung, Quickdraw-Duelle, Stealth-Angriffe und Luftaufklärung – und unterstützen zugleich fraktionsübergreifende Synergien und erweiterbare Streitkräfte.
