Rococo

Players manage a couture workshop and help prepare a grand aristocratic ball in 18th-century France. Each turn a player plays an employee card to perform a task: hire new staff, acquire materials, produce coats or dresses, or fund decorations for the event. Employees have specific actions and unique bonuses, so players draft and develop their deck to enable combinations that generate prestige points. After a fixed number of rounds the ball takes place and players score points from employee abilities, garments rented to guests, and funded decorations; highest prestige wins.

Really clever Eurogame that combines may different mechanics in a very organic way: Majorities, deck building, set collection... very well themed and so straight-forward.

Regelfrågor

Besvarat ur regelboken av Ludoyas regelassistent.

How many Employee cards are revealed for hire each round, and how many Employee cards do I pick into my hand?

At the start of each round exactly 4 new Employee cards are revealed next to the Hire spaces; then in Phase 2 each player secretly selects 3 Employee cards from their Employee supply into their hand, reshuffling the discard into a new supply only if you don’t have enough cards (see page 3).

Can I play more than one Employee card on my turn — and can I use both the main action and the card bonus?

You must play exactly one hand card on your turn and perform its single main action; after (and only after) the main action you may use the Employee bonus shown on that card (you may forfeit the main action and/or the bonus), and different card ranks (Master/Journeyman/Apprentice) restrict which main actions you may take (see page 4).

Do the level‑6 Employee card bonuses work during the game?

No — level‑6 Employee cards (they show a crown and red bonus background) do not grant their bonuses during the game; their effects only apply during final scoring (see page 4).

When I make a Dress, do I have to decide immediately whether to rent it out or sell it, and what if there are no guest spaces?

After paying the Dress’s Livre cost and surrendering the required resources you must immediately choose to either flip it to its rental side and place it on a free Guest space (then place one of your Property markers) or sell it for the printed money; if no appropriate Guest space is available you must sell the Dress (see page 5).

If I hire a new Employee can I play it that same round, and when I 'Depute' an Employee do I still get its bonus and can I depute hired ones?

Hired Employee cards are taken into your hand and may be played later in the current round; when you Depute a card you first gain the Livre shown on the carriage, you may then use that card’s bonus, and afterwards the card is removed from the game — you may depute both your own and hired Employees but you may not depute if you have only four Employee cards left in your deck (see page 5).
